Metallak was wonderful recreation, but it was the people that made it legendary, from the private canoe lessons with Tim by the light of two headlamps and the skipperless sailing trip with Elissa to Alban's antics on the slack line, and Cody's award winning spoon. With the memorable and (and admittedly) painful walk back to the car with the courageous Adriana (she'll downplay it if you ask her), though not as painful as the backward glance as we finally paddled away from the Island, though the food was worthy enough to be immortalized into a Metallak Island Cookbook, the people were the ones that turned the island sand into pixie dust, and the lonely island in western Maine into a piece of heaven for a few short days. So much so that the residue of the week lent delight to even the drive home all the way to Augusta .... see the culled photos HERE . Greg and Mary, we missed you both and the girls; it was very good to see David and Brittany. Nancy, we missed you, too. (and of course Barry and Christy, Paul and Petra)."Recreation, when true to its name, re-creation, tends to strengthen and build up. Calling us aside from our ordinary cares and occupations, it affords refreshment for mind and body, and thus enables us to return with new vigor to the earnest work of life." - Education, p. 207.1
Now we can get ready for winter.
