Suits need to be dry-cleaned. Hand outs need to be copied or printed. People need to be shuttled from the airport. And those are just details for the speakers. Pamphlets and registration cards need to be sorted and assembled. Food needs to be arranged, not just to feed people but to teach guests how to eat better.
Another day finalizing small details and assembling the media gear to transport up the two hours to Orlando. I've known that though I enjoy logistics and trying to figure out to make things move more efficiently, it is not my strength and it would behoove me to have someone on my team who is gifted in this regard, someone like a friend of mine, Peter Lombard who is the founder of Insouciance Abroad, and of whom I am confident in his expertise. I just can't afford him right now. Oh, and I'm not a group entity. Currently I'm flying solo.
But that is just a side note to this idea of working in ministry. A know a LOT of guys who see the evangelist speak and feel the tug on their heart strings or are enamored by the romance or fantasy of leading a full congregation to the foot of the cross by some eloquent exegesis of scripture, but forget that God still continues to be in the details. Each cell of photosynthesis He must still command, when he supplies us food by the orchards and gardens. Gravity still had to work on the flakes of the manna when they fell to the earth. And our muscles must still contract as we bite down and swallow. A plethora of work in the details must seamlessly continue to come together as the hunger are fed, the poor are relieved, and the Gospel is spread. And we must remember to be faithful in the lot where we have been placed. Even if no one else sees.

Oh, and this is what it looked like over Tampa Bay on the Westbound Howard Frankland Bridge. Another beautiful day in the St. Pete - Tampa area, which being in Florida boasts a whopping 360 days of sunshine per year.

ReplyDeleterestrepo referred to two words that are incompatible with each other; faith & excitement. did you ever get that reference?
and concerning this post. the MACRO and then the MICRO. big picture small picture intricate picture. at least all these modes of perception are in our God given repertoire of "ways to look at it..."
fare thee well brother. maranatha time!
well put...i definitely hear you on the details after planning our 20 year h.s. reunion (missed you by the way)...also in looking at many things like parenting or just life in general...i'm looking forward to learning more about your ministry. my father always wanted to be a minister and was in so many ways (mainly by the life he lived as an example to others)...i haven't explored this side of myself other than leading sabbath school for tiny tots but am intrigued and look forward to following your experiences!
