Clarity

It was so clear. And when it hit me, everything seemed to fall away and pale in importance. Not that other things weren't important. No, that's not what happened. It was simply that when the realization came home, it lent a clarity to other aspects of my life for the next 6 months.

Why I Travel; Why I Would Stay

How people are brought together in close proximity, I cannot tell.

Lawroweld

Sunrise at Lawroweld
Last night we watched a meteor shower at Camp Lawroweld, a Seventh-day Adventist camp in Western Maine. We got up at 3am to move to the dock, and watched the stars (and satellites, and planets and meteors). This is the sunrise.

Con·tent

con'·tent   vs.   con·tent'

What you get from it depends on where you put the emphasis. Most things work this way.

Have you ever thought how great it would be to be to get paid to travel ... and what it would cost?

Sacrifice

It is one of those concepts that can be talked about and discussed until there are no more words, but will never have its humbling effect upon the heart until we have to engage in it ourselves. Only at that time does it become ours. Only then do we own it because we have purchased it with an understanding burned into our being with the fire of experience. And it leaves a scar so hot, it continues to emit warmth after others have forgotten that a fire was there. After which no one can argue with your words about sacrifice, because you do not speak them. You live them.

"And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of." - Genesis 22:2

Flight Home

JFK to Portland
I always take a day to travel in between events and I try to get the window seat. This time, there were some remarkable things to see...

Campmeeting Final Morning

Lake Yale Dock
Last day of Campmeeting. No doubt, inspiration for the Work.

Conviction

The kind that is so palpable.

The kind that makes an appeal for rededication, who no speaker has said a word.

The kind that is so wrought with self-examination it is as if no one else was around and I had shown up to camp meeting by myself.

The kind of such strength it compels to be taken home and not told, but lived.

The kind that is meant for the End Times.

And that was last night, at the BEGINNING of the Sabbath. So now the bar is set, expectations for today are that much higher...

"They crave His choicest blessings. God does not wait for the Sabbath to pass before He grants these requests."

Florida Day 3 - Camp meeting

anolis carolinensis
Arrived at camp this afternoon, this little guy was doing his push-ups and flaring his bright dewlap, when I saw him on the fence.

Florida Day 2 - Logistics

Sometimes we spend so much time reviewing the big picture and forget that there are sundry details that must come together to make up an event like camp meeting.

Florida Day 1 - St. Petersburg Sky

Portland to New York (JFK)
August 2 started off early with a 6am flight to Tampa with a stop in New York. The mundane duties of the first day were marked by skies textured with clouds, all the way from Portland to New York.
